Where's fishing? EVERYWHERE !!

Its been a while since we could say that but most people are going down and catching .....be it BREAM ON THE LAKE -MUCH TO THE DISAPPOINTMENT OF THE CARP LADS THEIR BAIT IS GETTING INTERCEPTED ON  REGULAR BASIS.  Roach too have been consistent in their wilingness to bite and some decent specimens amongst them too.  Perch seem readliy available for those willing to fish maggot or worm but the bigger carp  have slowed down a bit ..UNLESS YOU KNOW BETTER.   We have reports of tench too but not as many as we would like so if tinca tinca is your favourite let us know whats happening

CANAL see the match reports posted recently (july) and increase the number of big fish for the pleasure men who get out early and late in the middle of the week to take some stunning  quality Bream and Tench.  A few big roach starting to show too but nothign like the numbers to come in August and September as seed baits pick out the real specimens ( can`t wait -ed).  Browns length upstream of the town always has plenty of fish, so too Rawsons Pool and dont forget the quiet stretches up on The Flour Mill and Salter Hebble...it may take a while for the fish to find your bait but some cracking sport to be had for the adventurous few.

RILEYS POND has been very consistent for several weeks now and the fish just keep on feeding. Many anglers are loosing fish so dont go underpowered when targeting these hard -and we mean HARD - fighters at close quarters.  YOU wont catch every time but when you do WOW! See latest match report for 24th july and the Chilldrens Taster the day before (on whats new)

RIVER the recent flush has left the Calder in good trim so now may be the time to get on its banks.  Trout  a plenty on the elland stretches and a few nice Chub lower down with the occasional Bream to add to a few roach too.  A couple of hours spent wandering around with little  tackle should be well rewarded and here again dont go undergunned `cos there are some big fish in the river .....just when everything goes quiet you will get the rod pulled from your grasp !! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!

Rileys pond -continues to set the standard as one of the best local venues for everyone to catch....even the starters are catching as the young kids will confirm that all species are willing to have a go.  local rugular in mid week jim took one of his best catches of 30 + fish including carp and roach..a couple of these going to the pound plus mark.... thats not bad for some one who has only been fisihng for a couple of years.  now in my day a pound roach was a fish of a lifetime !!  luncheon maet is starting to pick up a variety of fish so too the old favourite sweetcorn as well as pellet and maggot  one unconfirmed report of a ten pound carp does not surprise us.  Please note match bookings here

Brookfoot lake still patchy but "alive with fish"  all over  and all species but the carp are the dominant ones -of all specs and sizes- again unconfirmed report of the first 20lb plus fish last month annd several confirmed into the high teens. similarly for the bream -some of these are going 9lb + and we are confident of a double ....well being in there if i might not catch it !!  perch shoals in abundance too and some roach but no one nailed them ..YET.. it is often the end of july before they get their heads down to feed properly but lots of small fish on the surface.

River well we are open for the caorse angler bu t the low water level aand recent flush of cold water has inhibited feeding but sholud do  well this next week after some sunshine and settled water levels.  we know the smaller trout are feeding well and seem none the worse for the flush of pollutant that wiped out he  balck brook at west vale-several spectacular trout killed here-few reports of the grayling beeing keen to feed nor of the chub in the ganny lock stretch...like the tench we had had little news on them on any venue so far

Canal see match reports and note that it is full of this and last years fry everywhere so this bodes well for the futurre as long as  conditions remain favourable.  there have been two  stockings of smaller fish -roach , bream and crucians into the red reck stretch and one stocking of roach small ones into kossets earlier inn the spring so please let us know if you start catching these one and two year olds especially the crucians.  otherwise it is the bream and tench on kossets that have caught the eye with some big fish being taken in both pleasure and match bags.

Rileys Pond 22nd May saw the excellent start continue with a record breaking weight for the winner Andy Lumb.  Last months second place from mr consistent spurred him on to take pole position in the sweltering heat of saturday afternoon -many of the fish were simply basking inthe sunlight for much of the match....but 39lb of them were in andy`s keepnet to help him dominate the field.  Second place with 16lb was well inthe shade but a few other doubles showed the pond can still produce in the most difficult of conditions for many of the competitors.  Another excellent turn out reflects the popularity of the venue amongst the match fraternity.

Brookfoot Lake has begun to produce for the carp lads with a regular visitor taking five fish  to 15lb 8oz last friday afternoon -21st may- and returning for some more in the evening!!!!  see the comments on the forum if you want to pick up some tips as to how to go about fishing this notoriously difficult water.

The Canal has continued its fine if somewhat  intermitent form this afternoon tues 25th may as club match secretary steve mitchell hauled out a stunning 35lb + bag of bream with the odd tench in 2 and 1/2 hrs fishing !!  AND  he`s honest enough to admit to losing other big tench too !!!! picture to follow see fish pics

River Calder is down to its bones and is desparately short of water but this hasn`t prevented several good trout being caught.  regular hotspots producing to the evening rise.

Canal - Wednesday 21st April
Suddenly switched on with catches  of Bream and Roach plus other species -and good fish too -being reported ALL OVER the place

Riley's Pond Sat 17TH April
On a full sun day the pond seemed to fish better than anticipated as the pleasure anglers had noticed a slow down in sport since the easter weekend-but even they had had some sport.  latest match was won by j. holdsworth with a big bag of the better carp that came to one of the most consistent anglers on the club-john who won rileys league last year just missed the canal league trophy last season too !  Well claer of the field with 31lb john had andy lumb with 21lb trailing behind and dave rooney with 13lb in third.  many good anglers caught in the lbs so it was a matter of being on the bigger fish and knowing how to catch em.  interestingl;y  not all the favoured pegs performed this month so the fish are certasinly on the move at last.

Lake
Pleasingly carp are beggining to show on the lake and the sunny weather has brought out members new and old.  Also a few roach are feeding not in great numbers but very satisfying to those who target the silvers beauties.  Note they are not getting their heads down but go steady with he bait and you can expect a few bites as well as be seen off by the odd carp and tench!!!

Rileys Pond !!  see the match result entry for saturday 27th march
Lake- first reports of a couple of double figure carp for the season ....but thats only what anglers a re willing to tell us about so perhaps you know better !....Where are the Pike anglers ?? because this is the month for big females to put in an appearance...everywhere! !

Canal - the rain has spread out the roach shoals and these are now beginning to feed - see tri-cast last match report-but dont seem to have settled into  a feed ing pattern so keep the changes going and dont use too much feed

River- extra water plaing havoc but still trout to be had so wait till it settles down and go bag a few

Sunday 21st March, the recent rain encouraged the roach population to spread out through the canal and to feed !! so the contest was a more keenly fought affair than the previous round.  most of the entry had opportunity for some fish and it was some of the newly stocked fish on  the red beck that  made up the bulk of the catch for the winner.  this section had performed very poorly in the week prior to the match so this result will lift the spirits of all the regulars.

Tri-Cast Calder, Calder and Hebble Canal, Brighouse to Elland. 44. Keith Hemmington (Slaithwaite) 5-0-0, roach to 3 oz, bloodworm and caster, Red Beck; Steve Michaels (Tri-Cast Rochdale) 4-14-0; Ian Sutcliffe (Tri-Cast Rochdale) 4-12-8; Steve Mitchell (Tri-Cast Rochdale) 4-6-0; Steve Ashworth (Fox Match Red) 4-4-0.

Friday 22nd jan 2010 Few reports coming in from members but those that do recommend the river for  a few fish. Mixed catches of out of season trout  falling to maggot and worm tail but the most notable catches are those of grayling of various sizes up to the pound mark. fishing is not consistent however and it is a matter of finding the fish and taking as many as you can before they go off feed. Inconsistent water levels and temperatures make it difficult to predict best times and places so get out there for a couple of hours and have a look at several pegs!!!!

Vice president Horace Morton with his best catch of the day from the lake in late September.... about 10lb of carp!
