In Memory of Our Club Members

Lost but not forgotten

Christopher Thomas Johnson RIP

1937-2015. A member of our Association for 65 years and ticket secretary for 32. Chris was a part time singer and entertainer. A cheerful and flamboyant character and a gentleman who was able to make a difficult job look easy.

David Richardson RIP

In May, David one of our original juniors and brother to the late Colin, passed away. He served the Association as committee member and match team secretary. His love of "fishing and fun" are a small part of the lasting memory he leaves us.

Mr Percy Charnock RIP

Brighouse AA would like to express its sadness at the death of Percy Charnock, father of the late Ray. Percy was often seen around the lake in its formative years and was a long time servant of the Association. He will be remembered. Our condolences are sent to his family at this sad time.

Mr Colin Richardson RIP "A guy who loved to fish."

Colin died on the 2nd February 2009 Colin was a Vice President following on from his committee membership(1968 1985). A keen and accomplished Roach and Bream angler, Colin sharpened his skills in the highly competitive Brighouse match scene prior to moving onto the commercials. Most of our trophies bear witness to his skills as one of our finest match men over a 20 year period. As recently as 2006 he won the Calder championship with several big chub and in 2007 took a huge *Swale barbel on his first outing with the halibut pellet! The Brighouse Angling Association has lost one of its greatest supporters in general committee and especially the match committee.

Mr Dennis Noble RIP

Dennis worked as General Secretary for several years, with a loyal, dedication to the Club, until his untimely demise in 2004. The Brighouse Angling Association original website was created by Dennis with many hours of sweat and tears and hard work. Unfortunately when he departed, he also took the access codes to the website, with him. A new website has been created and is fully functional. Much of this website is the original creation and work from the original site. A big thank you Dennis.

Mr Ray Charnock RIP

Ray died on the 20th December 2007. His contribution to the Association has been immense, working as Committee member, as Treasurer for 20 years, Match Secretary and team member, junior organiser and general ambassador. The Brighouse Angling Association will be forever in his debt. The tangible legacy we retain is in the Lake and Tony Riley`s Pond. Ray`s guiding hand oversaw their development through a period of change lasting five years and some times this was a seven days a week task over and above his own business in the bakery. The current website is also testament to his dedication on taking up the challenge after the loss of it's original creator, Dennis Noble. We have been privileged to have known and to have worked alongside him.

Mr Eddie Sandiford RIP

Eddie died on the weekend 12/13th 0f January 2008; age 84 years. We understand him to have been the longest continuous member of the Association having joined in the middle of the last century. He served on the committee, along with his brother for a time, in the 50s, 60s and the 70s. A war veteran of the Burma campaign he enjoyed a career post - war as a joiner but his real passion lay with his fishing. By reputation one of the finest all round anglers the Association has ever had and as brilliant an exponent of art of river fishing to be seen anywhere in the North. Brighouse Angling Association has lost another stalwart.

Mr Terry Nutall R.I.P

Brighouse Angling Association would like to expres its sadness at the death of Mr. T. B. Nuttall and offer condolences to his family. We have long enjoyed Terry`s good company and have been delighted to see him bring family members to fish our waters. At one time his father had been secretary and also treasurer. Terry will be missed by us all.
